My Line in the Sand – Time to Be Me

I’ve procrastinated writing this very first post on my blog for a few weeks now. Not because I didn’t want to write it, I was really looking forward to posting this mile stone.

So why then?

I want what I post here to resonate with you, if possible. How?

We are all at different stages in our lives. If you, like me, long for something more, long to expand your life, long to find out what life has to offer if you go looking for it, then I want you to feel you have come to the right place.

So with this in mind, I went to look at what blogs online can look like. This was a huge mistake.

I started comparing myself and my so far very simple and not-so-fancy blog to others’.

And bam, just like that, I started to feel inadequate.

That is a bad place to be when trying to create something authentic and personal.

Instead of expressing me and where I’m at right now, I thought I had to make it all look as elaborate and techy and streamlined as on many other blogs I found. And that’s when FUD entered the scene.

FUD? Huh?

This is not my own invention, I’ve borrowed the acronym from someone else. This is what it stands for:

F = Fear

U = Uncertainty

D = Doubt

So for a few weeks, I’ve struggled with FUD.

Then it hit me.

All those amazingly beautiful blogs and their creators, they were once where I’m at now. They too were just starting out with a new adventure online, seeking to find out what would work and take them where they wanted to go.

So, I just have to start here, where I’m at right now.

Just like you will, if you decide to create your dream life this way. And by this way I mean creating an online business.

We all have to start at the beginning, right?

So, this is my line in the sand.

I will from now on do everything needed to make my dream a reality.

I will for sure make mistakes, make a mess of things, get stuck, don’t know how to move forward, take two steps forward and one back.

But, I will figure everything out as I go along, I’m sure of that.

All I need is a growth mindset, a belief that I can learn, implement, tweak, rise again whenever I’m slip and fall.

And that’s all you need too.

Let’s begin!

To our success, Katrin

  1. Katrin a MASSIVE well done from me….. I am so impressed that you were able to beat the FUD and publish

    You are so right!

And I can relate, I published my first magazine this week and it does not look as polished or visually appealing as the pros…. I hesitated to publish but in the end decided to just publish and improve for next time.

“All I need is a growth mindset, a belief that I can learn, implement, tweak, rise again whenever I’m slip and fall.”

Looks to me like you have that covered!

I look forward to following your journey and watching you grow.

Thanks so much for this post.

    • Thank you for your kind comment πŸ™‚ I’m sure I will encounter the FUD again, but hopefully less and less often!

Now I’m curious about your magazine, I’ll go and check it out!

  2. Hi Katrin,
You are so right we just need to start at the beginning no matter what it looks like a work our way through. I also focused too much on what my blog looked like at the beginning. It can be daunting seeing how advanced some blogs are. Glad you posted and started. Out of the HUD πŸ‘

  3. I love this first post. It looks like you are on your way, and I look forward to hearing more and following your journey! I really admire your courage to start something new!

  4. Hi Katrin!
I am so glad that you took the first step and made a public blog post! We are all finding our way. I can relate to those FUD moments. I am looking forward to reading about your journey! It is so important to post the successes as well as the learning moments.
    All the best!

  5. Hi Katrin,

I relate to FUD. I’m writing a blog as well, and I must say I just got stuck on the first one for almost 3 weeks. I have since decided I am just going to write and assume it will not be perfect, and that’s going to have to be OK. I can’t allow myself another week of waiting. Since then, I’ve written 3 posts. In your blog, I sensed calmness, so even though you may not be feeling calm inside, it came across on the outside, and that is something I aspire to.

  6. Katrin: I just started my blog today, and my blog is not fancy at all. However I had to get started. I appreciate your blog post on the subject of having fear of getting started. I am going to follow your
    footsteps in getting started.

  7. Hi Katrin,
Yes we all start in this same position what makes the difference is those final words that you mention (do everything needed). Stay focused and never give up, never. and I will happen for you.
All the best in your journey

  8. Hi Katrin, I am so impressed, your post really resonates, I love that you were able to get past the FUD and show your genuine self to the world, and officially start your journey! Looking forward to seeing your journey and much success in 2024!!!

  9. Katrin,

I know it can be scary to take the first step and build your blog site and post your first blog. It take courage to overcome the FUD and you have shown that courage.

One thing to remember is not to compare yourself to someone else. Others are on a different journey with different goals and dreams. You just need to focus on the tasks at hand and at the pace you need to set for you. This is not a sprint but a life long marathon.

I believe in you and know you got this. You’ve already shown you have the courage to succeed.

  10. I know looking at what others are doing and writing and comparing ourselves to them is a massive drain on self esteem and productivity. But once that challenge has honestly been overcome, anything is possible.

  11. Indeed.

A lot of times, we forget that all gurus are newbies at one point in time, and we compare our step 1 with their step 100.

    Congratulations for getting started!

  12. A brilliant post. Thank you so much for sharing.

We all feel the imposter syndrome, and I’m really pleased that you were able to share your feelings with everyone.
Growth Mindset is very powerful and the change in thinking will get you far.

I’m looking forward to reading your next blog.

  13. Great post, Katrin! No more FUDdy Duddy for you!

I remember my very first attempt at building a website, and boy was it HORRIBLE! But, it did the job (which was mostly centered around me learning what NOT to do, lol).

You, on the other hand, have a clean, beautifully simple look and feel that will be greatly appreciated, and gets the point across so very well – add to that your good writing skills, and you’ve got a winner!

I look forward to weeing and reading more.

    • For some reason unknown to me this comment ended up in the trash bin, maybe I clicked something without realising it.

Thanks for your kind words, I appreciate it. It’s not my first site, but this time I focus more on the content than the looks. I will get to that as well though, in time!

  15. Well done Katrin, you’ve done it and it’s life.
I bet you were proud of yourself, after publishing.
I made the same mistake, I wanted to see what a good blog looks like. I was comparing my first post with bloggers that been doing this for years. They had all SEO on their site, all fancy banners and great content, internal linking and so on.
But as Glenn Shepherd said, the blog is a web-log of my actions. I don’t need to be worried about how it looks. It’s mine, it’s true and shows my real journey. I can make it prettier later.
Every next post would be easier to the point where it starts to be addictive πŸ™‚
    Happy blogging!
    Tom

    • Thanks Tom, and you’re absolutely right, we can make it as pretty and fancy as we like later on. It’s kind of a relief not to be planning the content using best SEO practices, I just write.

  16. Katrin, well done for starting your blog, it was amazing. You have to remember that this is about YOU. People want to know about YOU and what YOU are doing. The way the blog looks and the flashy ones people have are not important. That is something you can learn and add if you need to in the future. I was amazed at how people responded to my blog posts and story. I first thought why would anyone want to know that. They do. Keep going you are doing great. Just tell your audience what you are doing and feeling..that’s it. I look forward to the next one. Thanks, Atif

  17. Katrin, Way to go for stepping off that procrastination train! It’s so easy to compare ourselves to others, but we’re all unique, and that applies to our blogs too. Just a reminder: slow progress is still progress! Keep up the awesome work! πŸš‚βœ¨

  18. Katrin, Thanks for being so honest with the starting of your blog. They say the single most important thing that makes successful people different from everyone else is Resilience – ones ability to overcome adversity. You have certainly shown us that in you! Can’t wait to read your next post.
